I just received the Curry 3TF and1 1/2TF. I have been playing the CGP trumpet mpc for about a year or more. Also have the CGP flugel and been using that on trumpet the last couple of weeks.
Here are my thoughts about how these mpcs stack up.
CGP trumpet = smooth, darker than regular trpt. mpcs... has more sizzle to the sound though than the Curry TFs. The hole is bigger on the CGP than the Currys.
Curry 3TF and 1 1/2 TF .... I can tell the difference in size... sound does not have quite the sizzle as the CGP but yet it still maintains the trumpet quality as does the CGP. I would say that if you take the little extra sizzle out of the CGP trumpet mpc... it would sound about the same as the Curry. So the Curry is a tad darker or "flatter" sounding... not sure "flat" is the right word.
CGP flugel mpc used on trumpet ..... obvious darker, richer.... no doubt about it... a hearing impaired person could tell the differnce. If you want dark and smooth and rich, etc. etc. on your trumpet... try the CGP flugel mpc... had to wrap just a little clear packing tape around the shank to make it fit.
This mpc has better and easier range.
Bottom line... All 3 choices (CGP trumpet, Curry TF and CGP flugel) on the trumpet are great. Probably wouldn't use any of them for lead or section work.... but guess that would depend on the type of music and size of band, other players, etc. etc... but for small group stuff (depending on how dark you want the sound to be and maybe the accoustics of the room you are in) any of the above are great.
My final assesment: all are darker than most trumpet mouthpieces.
1. The CGP flugel mpc used on trumpet wins my vote.
2. The Curry TF comes in 2nd.
3. The CGP trumpet is 3rd.
As for rim comfort, the CGPs win here.
All are winners!!!!
