Pranas are a bit of a joke I think. All Monette did was drill out the throat and charge $100 more. Marketing genius, that is all I have to say.

A lot of people feel that way and that is understandable especially for the money that you pay {$315} and you may not like the mouthpiece, but are stuck with it. There is a bit more to it than sticking a larger reamer in the throat. The real key is the Prana backbore design. This enables the throat to be larger while improving the sound, response, slotting and intonation. With the Prana line it is trickier to get the right relationship between backbore depths {how far the tool is put in} and throat size. Now the other thing Monette does is he uses a different alloy than other makers and it is also thought that he anneals his mouthpieces as well. Is Monette a marketing genius? Without question the answer is yes. Also without a doubt he comes up with some pretty impressive designs. Proof of that is many makers copy him to some degree after the fact. David Pranas are a bit of a joke I think. All Monette did was drill out the throat and charge $100 more. Marketing genius, that is all I have to say.

Jack: do you also use the larger throat on the M series Pranas or just the backbore? you have to have both.

Questions for Jack....
I'm interested in getting the M-B3 and M-C3, but they don't sell the C3 yet. Since I play C trumpet 95% of the time, guess I'll have to wait?
Can you tell me something about the rim feel of the M-B3 and M-C3, in comparison to the "Bach1-1/2C" Kanstul copy?
Thanks, Jeroen.
