Each finalists will be given a trial - I don't know when. Word on the street is that Balazs Nemes, one of the two finalists who recently won the MET principal position, did two weeks of rehearsals with the MET and then quit! romey

So any more news on the CSO job. Are the two finalists playing with the orchestra now? Are they playing concerts I wonder?

Wow, that is a long time to string this out.......
At least Ridenour will get more time in the lead chair.........
Romey, do you know much about the friction that is happening in the brass section these days? All I hear are the rumors floating around. I do know Bud personally, but I am not about to call him and ask.................
I know that both Hagstrom and Ridenour wanted the job, but neither of them seem to be in the finals.

Sorry Mikey, I'm not privy to that information and I refuse to speculate and spread rumors.
Ask Hagstrom and Ridneour yuourselves if you really want to know.
I do know that neither of them took the audition this time around.

I did not know they didn't audition this time around. Thanks for elightening me.
I also do not spread any rumors I hear.
Considering who they aer trying to replace, nobody will have an easy time of it for a while.

Ridenour is a monster player. Anyone who was at that Herseth tribute concert a couple of years back knows what I am talking about. Its called Alpine Symphony arranged for Brass Choir! Wowza!

That's part of my point, TM. I was at that concert too, and was blown away by Mark's playing. He sure seems qualified to play the lead chair, but as with all orchestra auditions, you never know................. Maybe the CSO is looking for someone that does not exist (unless you clone you-know-who) I have not been in the orchestra audition loop for several years, but from what I hear, the competition is still strong, but predictable. 100+ people auditioning, maybe 10-20 of them can really play......... My only concern about the length of time until they pick somebody is that the quicker they get settled, the better they will sound as an orchestra. (By the way, the CSO is not the only orchestra to have internal strife. Take a look at Boston...) mike

I heard mark play at that brass concert as well as Mahler 2 a couple of years ago. I had great seats. What a monster player.

I have heard the orchestra a number of times over the past three or four years, each time Mark Ridenour was playing principal. He is an outstanding player. Heard them do Mahler2, Dvorak 9, Shostakovich 5, Bruckner 7, and Mahler 7. He never had a bad night.
