Friends,
What do you think about busting out a cornet for Berlioz Symphony Fantastique and other works that ask for trumpet and cornet. In the Berlioz I think it is two trumpets and two cornets for example? (correct me if I am wrong) I don't think I have ever seen this done. Has anyone been to an orchestra concert where the players were using trumpets and cornets for something like Berlioz.
Thoughts?

I played in an orchestra that did that.
The 1st and 2nd player used cornets. I was 3rd so I covered the 1st trumpet part and the 4th player covered the 2nd trumpet part.
This was a part time orchestra that did a concert a month ( does that even fit the tier system?)so I don’t know if you want to count it as something to go by, but it worked for us. I am sure some one else on here has played with or seen a pro orchestra do this and can give you some better info on this.
