I have a Down Beat from 95 or 96 where it lists a bunch of young lions including Hargrove. I have a couple of his CDs. What is he doing now? Anyone know?

I have heard that Wynton and others have attempted to get him off heroin but to no avail. I haven’t heard Hargrove in years now, but last I heard him you could tell that he hadn’t really developed much in his speaking of the jazz language from were he was when he first came out, I think that drugs are responsible for this.
Maybe someone that has heard him recently can maybe add some more details to this. and now that i think of it , it has been a good 3 or 4 years since i have heard any news on him, so all my info may be way out of date.

I don't know if the drug claim is true, but he does have a new abum, The RH Factor: Hard Groove -- Roy Hargrove.
It's kind of a Miles Davis Doo Bop sound. He features Eryka Badu and a few other "soul" type artists. Mostly street beats with some cool horn work. Nice.
BTW, nice work here Trpt-Master.

Whoa fellas! Let's not start or prolificate a rumor. I saw Roy last year with Michael Brecker and Herbie Hanthingy and he sounded great. I also have the cd that they did and although Roy is not as good as he was live, he's still great. I also saw his quintet last year and Roy was fabulous. This is not the first place I've heard of Roy and his Horse, but I'll easily dismiss the stories of his demise in the trumpet world as BS.

sicne RH has been working with some heavy hitters in jazz I would assume he is off drugs now, and honestly the only reason I posted the info about him was becasue I thought everyone knew about it. I ddint feel like I was letting out some secret that no one had yet heard about.
as far as him droping off the scope, I think that is mroe related to the press coverage of the young lions and trying to get out of that and really learn his craft and be his own artist. but I am sure any habits he had might have added to that.

Roy still has his "problems". He is a fine player. It would be interesting to see how much better he might be without his "problems".
