So what do you guys think about Marcus Bonna mutes. For a while I think they were associated with the Monette thing because they came in larger sizes and would fit in a Monette bell well. I have tried some of the straight mutes and they are very loud and play well in tune.
What say you.

Not thrilled by the sound of these mutes. Some I've tried sound good sone dont. Not sure about the Monette thing. Speaking of big bells. I remember I played with a guy who was playing a Wild Thing. His corks were so big it looked like he had full wine corks on his mutes. jd

I have a Marcus Bonna straight mute, and I agree, it plays loud well. Also, it has the best intontation of any mute I have played other than a TrumCor, which is to say that the pitch doesn't change (for me anyway). I like them, but I am trying to find a soft straight mute. The MB soft mute isn't bad, but I think there is better.

How about the copper Tom Crown? That's been my favorite straight for legit work. Commercial I like the aluminum Denis Wick. Bright, projecting without breaking up.

The all copper Tom Crown is great too. The MB mutes are a little more transparent in sound, and probably cut better. I do like the richness of the copper Tom Crown.
Has anyone tried the MB cup mute? I am interested in hearing what people think about that as well.

Check out the Walt Johnson Cup Mute! Sound, very responsive, pitch is fine. My favorite cup for everything.
