What is the best straight mute for clear articulate loud passages within an orchestra? I have always used a Dennis Wick, but recently a conductor suggested a Jo Ral to me. Thoughts?

Jo-Rals are great mutes, but a Tom Crown all-copper mute may be even louder....
Also, depending on whether you use it for Bb or C trumpet, you can get higher corks on the Tom Crown mutes, which make intonation better on C trumpet. Many years ago, when Tom Crown was still making them, he sent me some strips of c trumpet cork. I put it on all my C trumpet straight mutes, and the intonation is much better.
I can measure the height of the cork, if anybody is interested.

The more I use the Wick I wonder........ I have used one for so long I guess I just assumed it was the best. Know Im not sure. I tired an MB and that bad boy sure does cut.
Interesting topic
