the CG trumpet is a large bore.
did CG want/expect everyone to play large bore equipment or can you follow his principals on small or medium horns to?
which current design is most like the horn described on the CG site, large bore, small bell, light weight?

You can and should follow the principles of what Claude taught no matter what bore size you play - but playing a larger bore horn is easier and less restrictive - especially to a well-developed player. A Schilke B3 loosely follows the design basics of the CG trumpets in that it is a large bore horn with a medium large bore bell. But that's not to say it would feel or play exactly the same, as the lead pipe shape is not the same. Also I believe a Bach Strad Large Bore with a 25 Bell would be similar (but again, not the same). My recommendation is to find a good used CG Selmer or CG Benge trumpet (or buy one of the remaining new CG Selmers that Patty Gordon still has in stock before she has sold them all off). The CG website is at: www.claudegordonmusic.comHope this is helpful to you! Sincerely, John Mohan

Hi - I'm back!
I just remembered - I think that Kanstul has brought out (brought back) the Benge 6X, which is the design that was modified to create the CG Benge.
If this is true (ask Jack on the Kanstul forum), then this would be the closest thing available to a CG trumpet that is currently being produced. And you can be sure you'll get superior craftsmenship if you buy a Kanstul product.
Sincerely,
John Mohan

I think you will find the Kanstul 1070 is what you are looking for. Large Bore Chicago Benge, it blows like my old CG Benge but I think the scale is better.
