Hello everyone, Just wanted to let everybody know I'm new on this forum. Some of you may know me from TH as Jeroen Jongeling. Nice to be here, without trolls and "all that jazz" . Hope to make some friends and on the way help some of you and ask for advice myself. I'm a, what you might call, "sub" for a couple of Dutch symphony orchestras. Next to that I also teach trumpet a little bit. I studied with Peter Masseurs (Principal of the Concertgebouw orch.) in Amsterdam. Greetings from Amsterdam, Jeroen (Jerry if you can't speak Dutch ).

Hi Jerry
I have some great friends over in the East of the Netherlands, but their English is so good that they won't allow me to try to speak Dutch. I can order beer though, what else matters in a language? ;D

Ian,
You're absolutely right. I was in Vilnius (Lithuania) this weekend for giving a masterclass and a concert with De Volharding (Dutch contemporary wind ensemble) and one of the first couple of words you pick up is Beer! The beers were okay, not to mention the wodka...

jerry:
a pleasure to meet you. the only dutch orchestras i've heard on recordings are the concertgebouw, netherlands philharmonic (with haenchen?), and collegium aureum. you play with any of those?
i heard that a couple of decades ago the concertgebouw section used schilkes. do you know if that is so, and if they made any recordings with everyone playing that brand? i'd like to hear how it sounded.

Hi David,
Yes you're right. In the late sixties and seventies most of the players were playing Schilke horns. When Peter Masseurs joined, early eightys, some still did. A lot of recordings with Haitink are from that time, so you can get a lot of recordings with that section. For example the Mahler box with Haitink under the Philips classic label.
My teacher is one of the principals in the Concertgebouw, but I never played there. I do play in the Netherlands philharmonic, a couple of productions each season, as a sub ofcourse.
Jeroen.

Welcome to this new trumpet site, Jerry.
I'm glad to see you here and read your messages again. I had thought that I lost contact with you from TH.
I wanted to let you know that I finally got a C trumpet (Kanstul 1510) if you did not pick this bit of information up from TH.
Hope things are well with you and your family.
All the best,
Liad Bar-EL

Hey Liad,
Thanks for your kind words. Hope all is well with you too. So, how's the Kanstul treating you? I played one for a couple of months a few years ago, while I was waiting for my Belcanto C. Easy to play, I remember. The Belcanto has also gone. I'm playing a Dutch C horn now and want to buy a back up C in the very near future. I want a good used Bach 239 25a silverplate, so if anyone knows one......

Hi Jeroen, When I was searching for a good used Bach, I found a few good ones at Giardinelli: www.giardinelli.com/cgi-local/SoftCart.exe/shophome.html?E+giardLook at the B line (which are used). The Kanstul sound is great but the valves are clanky. The Schilke and Taylor valves have spoiled me I guess. Let us know what you find and good luck. Liad Bar-EL
